So, you know how I’ve been griping for the last few months about how busy work is and how I barely have time for anything outside of work and family time? I’m so, so happy to say that it is over! The deadline we’ve been working toward was June 26th and I am so, so glad that it has passed AND that I got all of my work done on time – SUCH a relief!!
It’s no secret around here that I love yoga. It’s the one form of exercise that I never dread and always look forward to doing. My gym recently cancelled my Wednesday night Power Yoga class and I’ve been struggling to practice on my own. I have a few DVDs, but I get bored doing the same routine over and over and they aren’t challenging to me anymore. One of the things I love about yoga is that your practice is your own, you make the poses your own and it’s a constant work in progress. Or at least it should be. With the few videos I have, that wasn’t happening anymore though. I was definitely in a rut.
You may have noticed in some of my pictures that something is missing around here lately..
It’s time to say so long, Kindergarten! First grade, here comes Braden!
I debated running the Memorial Day 5K, we didn’t sign up until two days before and ultimately decided to do it because we did it last year. Much like this year, I took a break from running after the Bainbridge Half to let my body recover from the training. My body didn’t really need to recover this year, but mentally I just haven’t been there. I’ve had no desire to run at all. Last year, I ran a PR at the Memorial Day 5K and was really, really happy with my time.
Every time I start to write a race recap, I want to say it’s one of my favorite races. I feel like I say that about all of the races.. perhaps I just like to run races? Who knows. Last year, I went into pretty great detail about the Bainbridge Half Marathon so I’ll spare you this year. If you’re not familiar with it though and you’re anywhere near South West Georgia, you may want to check it out. I posted lots of pictures of the course last year and it’s really pretty. Adam was running the half this year too, along with my cousins Drew and Celia. Technically I guess Celia is my cousin-in-law. She’s married to my cousin Daryl, but I like her so I claim her as my own 🙂
First, I want to wish you a Happy National Running Day! Even though I haven’t been running much lately, I love being a part of the community. I’m sure my husband will agree, I’m a much happier person when running is a normal part of my routine! I run to help manage stress, to stay healthy, to become stronger, for my family, for me, and mostly to save my sanity. I’m not sure that I’ll have the chance to log any miles today – it’s a CRAZY day in the Smith house – but I hope you’re able to run a few for me!
Gouda is quite possibly one of my most favorite foods. Nearly every day, I eat an apple with gouda for lunch. Smoked gouda? Even better! (FYI – You can buy a huge wedge of it at Costco for much cheaper than the grocery store!) This pasta salad was seriously delicious and even better the next day. I was worried the sauce would be too heavy with the mayo, but it wasn’t at all. I think next time we make it, we’ll throw in some bacon too. Bacon and gouda together.. does it get any better than that?
Ohh look, I’m finally recapping the 2014 Gate River Run, it’s about time since the race was in mid-March! Last year was the first time I ran the Gate River Run. It’s a HUGE event in Jacksonville, it seems like everyone in our running community runs it. This year, if I remember correctly, there were just under 20,000 runners and walkers. It’s hard for me to visualize that many people.. maybe it is for you too? This should help.. this is the Main Street Bridge in downtown Jax.
I was super excited when the folks at Frozen Bean contacted me asking if I’d be interested in trying out their products. I’m a coffee-holic, almost to an embarrassing degree. Literally the first thing I do in the morning is walk from my bed to the keurig, to start my coffee. I don’t function without it. So trying out some new coffee goodies? Right up my alley! Here’s what they have to say about their products:
