These days, I see so many articles about the “Pinterest Moms” and how too much is spent on birthday parties. These articles argue that “going overboard” teaches kids to have such high expectations for everything and how it is doing such a huge disservice to them. I’ve read how it’s more for the parents than it is for the kids, how doing anything more than slapping a “Happy Birthday” banner on the wall and ordering pizza is just showing off and some sort of status symbol, how it isn’t about the kids. You know what I say to that? Whatever! 🙂
Do you ever have those days where you just wonder if you’re invisible? I don’t know what was going on yesterday, but I seriously felt like I was. To explain, I need to rewind a bit though.. to this..
Like many of you, at the beginning of last year, I set some goals for 2014. I went back and read over the list just a bit ago and.. I did okay? I had ten goals and I mostly hit six of them. I wasn’t considering them resolutions or even things that I needed to get done in 2014. If they happened before the year was over, great. If not, I’d keep trying.
Part two of playing catch up — Christmas Eve! We have a few friends that do not have family close by and we hate the idea of them spending the holidays on their own so we always invite everyone over (along with our parents and my brother) and Adam makes a huge batch of his Baked Ziti and we let the kiddos play while we relax and chat.
First, please forgive me if this post is a disjointed mess — I’m sitting in a Pokemon club with Braden and 10 other little boys. It’s seriously hilarious how seriously they take their Pokemon cards, particularly since none of them seem to have any clue what is going on and the rules keep changing depending on.. I have no clue.
I kind of don’t know where to start. I have a million posts swirling around in my head, I started making a list and it’s quite long and that’s just what I came up with off the top of my head. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t blog for a month. Work has been keeping me so busy and by the time I am done (which has been in the wee hours of the morning, for the last three weeks) with work for the day, the last thing I want to do is spend a second longer sitting in front of the computer. Even if it’s to write about things I enjoy.
Or in other words, I’m a big nerd. I’m okay with that. I am no good at coming up with post titles and for some reason when I wrote “Catch Up”, it made me think of ketchup. Then I remembered when I was younger seeing it spelled “catsup” and thinking it was strange. So there you go.
That’s how long it’s been since I’ve written a blog post — oops!
It’s been crazy around here and we’ve been busy, busy, busy. Instead of bombarding you with a ton of little posts about the things we’ve been up to, I’m just going to share some pictures. I could write lots about it, but I know when posts are this picture heavy (and long) I tend to just scroll, so I’ll save us all the time and try to be brief!
I am so, so late on this. Total mommy fail.
